These easy to make Easter egg decorations can be used for a multitude of projects. Just follow a few simple directions and watch how you can make something really beautiful with the minimum of supplies.

  • salt dough recipe (Below)

  • half egg mold

  • paper clips or ornament hangers (optional)

  • paint

  • sandpaper

  • baking spray

  • table knife

  • paint

  • clear coat sealer

  • stickers or clip art or other embellishments as desired

  • Please read entire article before making project.

Make up your salt dough recipe. Spray your mold and start forming egg shaped pieces by pinching off some dough and roll it and form a circle. Push each dough form into the egg mold until you have the mold full. Turn the mold upside down and allow the egg shapes fall out. If there is too much dough around the edges simply cut them off with a table knife. Complete these steps until you have used up your dough.

(You can omit this step if you plan to display them in a basket.) If you have ornament hangers you can stick one in each egg near the bottom of each egg. If you use paperclips take them apart and form a hook at the top and insert the bottom still in a U shape deep into the egg.
You can now put them in the oven at 200 degrees and allow them to bake or place them in a dehydrater to harden them.

Once they are hardened take the sandpaper and gently sand down any rough spots on your egg. Give the egg a coat of paint of your choice. Allow to dry and sand again. Paint the egg again and allow to dry. Embellish as desired and use the clear coat to seal the egg. You have just finished a beautiful Easter egg decoration that you can use for years.

Enjoy the beauty of these half eggs on your egg tree.

***If you are using flowers or other material things other than paper use the clear coat before you add them.

    Salt dough recipe

  • 4 c Unsifted flour

  • 1 c Salt

  • Mix together flour, salt. With a big wooden spoon, slowly stir in the water. Add water a little at a time until dough is soft and sticks together but is not runny. It should be the consistency of biscuit dough. Knead in bowl and begin forming your shape or roll out onto floured surface for cut outs.

Tip: You can add food coloring or a scent to this recipe if you want.

    Salt Dough Eggs
    by: Crafts For All Seasons

I LOVE this idea! I like when you can make eggs that last for a long time. Especially when you put a lot of effort into decorating them... then they don't go bad and you can keep them year after year. Thank you for sharing this project.
