Fabric embossing is a way to create a raised design on fabric. The raised design also acts as a perfect stencil or pattern, and the design can be painted with fabric paints to create a beautiful effect. There are ready made fabric embossing kits available on the market. You can also choose to do it yourself, using a textured item with a raised design (such as a rubber stamp). The item must be able to withhold heat, since the embossing is achieved using a hot iron. Fabrics that work best are ones that have a nap, such as moleskin, velour or velvet.

This project was created by ironing the velvet cloth on the backside to get the picture embossed on it. We then used pearl paint to colour it. In the first picture, I used puff medium to get the picture embossed even more.
