Rooster Nail Art

by Linda
(Big Bend, WI)

I love your work. I am attaching a picture of something I made back in High School (the 1970's). Nails and tacks were hammered into a wooden rooster plaque. I am looking to make something again similar to this but I cant find a pattern anywhere. Your's is the closest thing I have found. Does anyone have any ideas where I could find more patterns? I'm not looking for string art though. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Please leave any comments or ideas below. Thank you very much!

This is just gorgeous work! Thank you for sharing your project. I haven't seen anything like this, but I am going to do some searching around. If other visitors have seen something like this before and know of any patterns, please leave a comment on this project. Many thanks!

Thank you. I really enjoyed making this and would love to find some other kind of pattern to make as well. So far no luck in my search.

Try this...

I remember this type of art. I grew up in 60's and this was popular. I don't know where you can find patterns, but I know how you can make patterns yourself.

Pick any design you may like. Try searching for clip art, or even coloring book images. Print it out, then trace it onto a piece of wood using carbon paper. You can then cut out the outside of the shape with a band saw. Then, sort different size nails into groups. They can differ by height, or width, or nail head size. Hammer in the same type nail in each section of the drawing. These can be left as is, or painted different colors to match the section.

So in this case, you don't really need a pattern. You can do nail mosiac art using any drawing you choose! Good luck!

I can't believe it, I own this rooster, I bought it at an antique shop. We love it! I am located in Canada.

I too made one of these during the 70's. The pattern was in a magazine, Better Homes & Gardens, Womens Day, or something like those. To this day I have not been able to locate it again. Would love to find the article again. It hung in my mothers kitchen for years. If someone should find it, please share.
